Miles From Anywhere
A hidden gem surrounded by Croajingolong National Park. At the end of the road, where the wilderness meets the water.
Mallacoota sits in the far eastern corner of Victoria, wrapped by one of Australia's 15 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. There's no through traffic here - the road ends at the water. It's the kind of place where you can fish at dawn, explore a penguin colony at Gabo Island, and watch the sunset over the inlet with a cold drink in hand.

Gabo Island
A protected lighthouse reserve home to one of Australia's largest penguin colonies and a thriving fur seal population. Boat tours depart from Mallacoota Wharf - a 550m walk from Silver Bream.
Spot whales on the journey out, explore the historic lighthouse, and be back in time for dinner at Scallywags.
Tours run from September through May, weather permitting, with morning departures giving you the best chance of calm seas. The island's pink granite lighthouse, built in 1862, is the second tallest in Australia and offers guided tours during your visit.
Pack layers - it's always a few degrees cooler out on the island, even in summer.

Croajingolong National Park
One of Australia's 15 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, Croajingolong National Park wraps around Mallacoota with 100km of pristine coastline. Ancient rainforest gullies, coastal heathland, and wildlife encounters around every bend.
The Wilderness Coast Walking Track starts right here - lace up and disappear for an hour or a week.
Keep an eye out for wallabies grazing at dawn, echidnas shuffling through the undergrowth, and sea eagles circling overhead. The Genoa Peak walk rewards you with panoramic views of the coastline, while Wingan Inlet offers an easier stroll through banksia woodland to a pristine beach you'll likely have to yourself.

Beaches
Bastion Point for rock pools and family swims. Betka Beach for surf and solitude. Secret coves accessible only by boat or bush track. The water is crystal clear, the sand is white, and you'll often have the whole stretch to yourself.
Bastion Point is the pick for families - sheltered water, rock pools for the kids, and a grassy picnic area. Betka is where the locals surf, with reliable breaks and rarely a crowd.
For something more secluded, ask us about the walking tracks to Quarry Beach or take a tinny up the inlet to find your own stretch of sand.

Fishing & Boating
Drop a line off the wharf, or book an offshore charter with Mallacoota Fishing Charters for serious game fishing. The inlet is teeming with bream, flathead, and tailor.
Kayaks available for those who prefer to paddle - the estuary at sunrise is something else.
Flathead and bream are reliable year-round in the inlet, while summer brings tailor and salmon to the beaches. Boat hire options include Mallacoota Barbie Boats, Bucklands Jetty Boat Hire, and Mallacoota Hireboats.
Grab your bait and tackle from the general store in town, and if you're launching your own boat, the main ramp at the wharf is a two-minute drive from Silver Bream.
We're happy to point you to the spots the locals don't advertise.

Golf
Mallacoota Golf Club offers a relaxed 9-hole course surrounded by bushland. Kangaroos on the fairway are par for the course. No bookings needed, no dress code enforced - just turn up and play. Clubs available for hire if you didn't pack yours.
Green fees are refreshingly affordable - just drop your money in the honesty box by the first tee. The clubhouse opens for social events and the occasional Sunday afternoon drink.
Don't be surprised if you're putting out while a mob of kangaroos watches from the edge of the fairway - they're part of the experience.
Travelling with kids? Check out the Mallacoota Mini Golf.

Dining
Long lunches at Scallywags overlooking the inlet. Lucy's for noodles, Lee's for pizza, Sundayss for proper coffee. Everything's within a two-minute walk from Silver Bream - no designated driver required.
The Mallacoota Hotel does a solid parma, and the bakery's pies are legendary with locals.
Fair warning: this isn't the city, so check opening days before you set your heart on somewhere. Most places close at least one or two days a week, especially out of peak season.
You can't go wrong with fresh fish and chips eaten on the foreshore as the sun goes down.
Your Base for Exploring
Silver Bream Motel is perfectly positioned for all of Mallacoota's adventures. The wharf, beaches, and town centre are all within walking distance.
