Mallacoota — The Reward at the End of a Great Ride

Park right at your door, under cover. The road in is the ride. Silver Bream Motel is your base on the East Gippsland coast — a quiet stop on the Sydney to Melbourne coastal route and the gateway to the Snowy backroads.

Mallacoota sits at the end of one of the best motorcycle roads in Victoria. The 23-kilometre run in from Genoa cuts through Croajingolong National Park — sweeping bends, low traffic, and a surface that holds up. Silver Bream Motel is built for riders who want to pull up, unpack, and not think about their bike again until morning.

The Road Is the Destination

The Princes Highway turn-off at Genoa drops you onto Mallacoota–Genoa Road — twenty-three kilometres of national park riding. Sweeping bends, gum forest either side, the inlet revealing itself as you come down into town. It's the kind of road riders plan their route around.

Coming from Sydney, Mallacoota is a natural overnight on the coastal run south. Coming from Melbourne, it's the most remote and quiet coastal town you can reach without leaving the state.

Where to Ride From Mallacoota

Coastal Touring — Eden and Beyond

The Princes Highway north to Eden is sealed, scenic, and an easy day ride. Lakes Entrance south is a longer run but a classic East Gippsland route.

The Snowy Run — Adventure and Dual-Sport

Imlay Road climbs out of the coast into the Snowy hinterland. Barry Way to Jindabyne is one of the great Australian motorcycle roads — gravel sections, river crossings, alpine country. Pack accordingly.

Day Loops from Town

Genoa Peak Road for a lookout run, the inlet drives for a slower morning, and the back way to Gipsy Point for a coffee stop.

Off the Bike

  • The Mallacoota Hotel for a pub meal — short walk from the motel.
  • Cafés and the bakery for morning coffee before the off.
  • The fuel stop in town — one servo, so fill up before you head out for the day.
